Morgan Engineering Breaks Ground

ALLIANCE, OH — Morgan Engineering has begun construction on a new corporate headquarters in Alliance, Ohio. The office building will be built next to the company’s current manufacturing facility on South Mahoning Avenue, and is part of a $5 million investment in Morgan’s Alliance operations.
Morgan’s core business includes the engineering, sales and service of overhead and gantry-type cranes, such as those used in steel mills. But a continuous pursuit of innovation has also led it into the high-tech fields of manufacturing automation and kinetic structures – such as retractable stadium roofs. The company celebrated its 150th anniversary in May and has called Alliance home since 1871.
“As our customers’ needs evolve, we’re committed to looking for new, creative ways to grow and push the envelope in our industry,” said Mark Fedor, CEO of Morgan Engineering. “This investment will further expand our technological capabilities as a company and position us as a leader in the next industrial revolution – industry 4.0.”
The 14,000-square-foot, single-story headquarters building will be the new home for 65 members of the company’s corporate, engineering and sales teams. It will contain offices and conference rooms, as well as spaces for training and an industry 4.0 technology development center.
The design of the building’s front entryway was inspired by the retractable roofing structure Morgan developed for Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York – home of the U.S. Open.
Construction of the new headquarters is estimated to be complete by March 2020. Caplea Studio Architects was selected as the building architect and general contractor.
In addition to the construction of its new headquarters building, Morgan is also investing in a number of improvements to its Alliance facility, including:
● A 15,000-square-foot extension of its high bay manufacturing space to increase production and assembly capacity for its core business and kinetic structures projects.
● Upgraded high-voltage electricity infrastructure.
● New robotic welding tools.
● New computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools.
● New siding and translucent panels to improve the appearance and energy efficiency of its main manufacturing shop.
● Transformation of the company’s current office building into green space.
Fedor credits officials from the City of Alliance, Stark County, the State of Ohio and the Trump administration for Morgan’s $5 million facility investment. The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which designated Alliance as a Qualified Opportunity Zone, was designed to spur economic development and empowered the company to modernize its manufacturing facility.
“This investment in our Alliance facility will not only position Morgan for continued growth over the next 150 years,” said Fedor. “It will also help us make a positive contribution to our local and regional economy.”
Canton, Ohio-based NL Construction will serve as the architect and general contractor for Morgan’s manufacturing space upgrades, including the high bay extension and siding installation.
