Meeting Morgan: Large Assembly Supervisor
/ Blog
In the third edition of our Meeting Morgan series, we hear from large assembly supervisor, Win Young. Miss the first post? Catch up with site services technician, Ellery Aiken.
Win Young has found his place at Morgan Engineering for the past 14 years. He is confident, capable, and determined. These skills and more have made him a vital part of our company.
Q: What is your training background?
A: Before Morgan, I worked for a sub-contractor who serviced Big Red, a milling machine that has been in our shop since the 1970s. I was on the team that completed the crane modernization by upgrading it from mechanical to electrical.
Q: Did you always want to work in this industry/position?
A: This wasn’t an industry I grew up being interested in, but I also didn’t know much about it before working for the sub-contractor. Once I had that hands-on experience, I felt connected to the work that was done here.

Q: What was your first job title in your career path? How did this job help you to build the skills you now use?
A: Before my current job at Morgan Engineering, I worked in some assembly line-type positions. Each of these jobs allowed me to grow into a supervisor position just as I have here.
Through these jobs, I was able to learn to roll with the punches. My current position oversees a team of four. Supervisors have to be flexible with people’s schedules as their lives happen outside of work. It all becomes a balance.
Q: Was there anything/anyone that was a strong influence on your career choice?
A: I always liked working with my hands. It felt like the stuff I learned in the classroom sunk in better outside when I was putting it to use. I followed that interest.

Q: What about Morgan Engineering made you want to apply to a position here? How long have you been with Morgan?
A: This was a hands-on position that I was familiar with from my time with the sub-contractor. At the time, I was learning how to build an overhead crane and how I could help with the crane’s electrical parts. I felt my electrical knowledge would be useful.
Q: What does a day in your job look like?
A: Organization, for my team and myself, is a main focus. When we’re starting a new job, I come to work looking for what our group will need to get going. If we’re in the middle of a job, I am deciding who should go where. Efficiency is key to staying on track. We work to avoid mistakes as much as possible.
Q: What is your favorite thing about the work you do?
A: I appreciate the trust there is between myself, my boss, and my team. I am trusted to get the job done efficiently. We have good commitment from everyone which makes things run smoothly.

Q: What goals do you have for yourself and your work this year?
A: Overall, my job takes a lot of discipline. It can be dangerous unless it gets someone’s full attention. Safety must always be a priority. Safety is a way of life around here, but it needs maintenance to make sure that never changes.
My main focus is to keep us on track as we finish the second half of the year. We’ve done good work so far and I expect that to continue. I trust my team to continue to do the work they’ve shown they can do so far.
