Ohio-Based Businesses Transform Lives with Water Bottles

/ News

Morgan Engineering, a leading provider of material handling solutions in Alliance, Ohio, is expanding its commitment to global sustainability and community support. This time, the company is making an impact far beyond the industrial sector – by once again teaming up with We Are the Ripple (WATR) on a new initiative set to bring clean water to Zinunula Primary School and the surrounding community in Kilwanyi LC1 Village, Luweero district, Uganda.

WATR is a drinkware brand that supports the building of water projects for communities in need, one bottle at a time. By partnering with WATR, Morgan Engineering is directly supporting a sustainable on-site water source that is poised to benefit over 1,000 people, including students, teachers, and community members. The school has long struggled with inadequate access to safe water, forcing children to walk two kilometers (about 1.25 miles) to fetch water from a distant and overcrowded borehole, not only missing precious class time but also making it difficult to maintain hygiene and prepare meals on time.

Building a Sustainable Future with Clean Water

Through sales of WATR’s water bottles, funds have been raised to construct a new borehole that will bring safe, drinkable water directly to Zinunula Primary School. The impact of this project extends beyond hydration – it will enable better hygiene, reduce illnesses caused by waterborne diseases, and ensure that students spend more time in the classroom instead of searching for water.

Fourteen-year-old Nakandi Eva, a Primary Seven student, expressed her excitement over the new development: “I want clean water at school because it will save us from drinking contaminated water and we will have enough water for washing hands after using the toilet.”

Eva’s sentiments are echoed by many in the community. The new borehole is expected to provide clean water to:

  • 247 boys
  • 241 girls
  • 15 teachers and support staff
  • 500 community members

This will transform the lives of 1,030 individuals in total.

Eva, along with many others in the community, is eager and grateful to embrace this transformation. She and her fellow students understand the importance of safeguarding the new water source, vowing to use it responsibly to ensure its longevity. “When we get the borehole, I will tell my fellow learners to pump the borehole gently to prevent breakdowns because we are so lucky,” Eva said.
